
The mobile Internet has arrived and is being adopted at a rapid rate in the United States. The major US mobile carriers have reported mobile Internet usage growth rates of as much as 180% year over year. Nielsen Mobile reported that there are now at least 40 million mobile Internet users which is nearly 16% of all cellular phone users in the United States. These mobile Internet users have diverse demographics with 35 – 54 year olds making up the largest group at 37%, 25 – 34 year olds at 27%, 18 – 24 year olds at 12%, and 55 – 64 year olds at 9%. City guides, sports, entertainment, and music make up 4 of the top 10 mobile categories, with entertainment and music being the fastest growing segments. Local information and online shopping account for nearly 30% of the most desired mobile content. |
